Pertisau is one of the best starting points for winter hikes and cross-country tours in Tyrol’s largest nature park, the Karwendel Alpine Park. Karwendel cable car takes skiers to the ‘Zwölferkopf’ ski area, which provides special offers for families.
Cross-country skiers will not only be delighted by the unique natural landscape in this nature conservation area, but also by the snow-covered slopes which enable you to do some smooth gliding all winter long, guaranteed.
One of Emperor Maximilian’s preferred hunting grounds was Pertisau and many aristocrats and artists were inspired by this idyllic town. During a stroll through the inviting town centre or along the lake promenade, there are many references to its successful history as being a place for a summer holiday. With innovations, such as the oldest golf club in Tyrol for instance, Pertisau is successfully continuing down this path today.
The main landing stage for the Achensee boat trip is situated in Pertisau. Since 1887 steamboats have connected the towns of Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau. Windsurfer’s colourful sails and sports such as fishing, tennis, running and Nordic Walking are some of the activities on the agenda in this holiday town.
It is not just many of the leading wellness hotels which are local to Pertisau, Vitalberg, the museum for Tyrolean Shale Oil is too. Tyrolean shale oil, which is still extracted from oil shale in the Achensee region in Bächental/Karwendel Mountains and made into skin care and health products, is reputed to have a healing effect. In Vitalberg, shale oil has its own museum and experience realm in Pertisau.
